Bath Spa University Gatehouse 1921

We are really fortunate to have some amazing spaces available for hire at Newton Park. The Bath Spa University Archive team have been busy recreating photographs of a collection they have from 1921. They’ve shared some of those images with us.

Gatehouse then and now

The archway under the Gatehouse is licensed for wedding ceremonies.

Italian Garden then and now

The garden is perfect for your drinks reception before or after your wedding. We can also arrange seating to face the Gatehouse for your guests to watch your ceremony.

Octagon Room then and now

Now used as a staff room, this is a perfect place to relax after an event for a bit of downtime. We are a little bit sad the first Principal of the teacher training college, Miss Dawson (pictured), chose to ignore the advice of the then Holburne Museum Director and painted over the lovely friezes on the walls. We’re very lucky though to have received funding to restore the original ceiling and recently re-hung the spectacular (and rather heavy) chandelier.

Drawing Room then and now

The Drawing Room is now used by Bath Spa University as its main board room. The furniture in the room is flexible and it has been used for drinks receptions, VIP dinners, and most recently a sit down meal for the first wedding held at Newton Park.
